MATTHEW CHAPTER 2

Men Who Study the Stars Come from the East to Visit Jesus

(Vas 1-12)

(Verses 1-12)

1. Merí bọ́n Jízọs fọ Bẹ́tlẹhẹm wé bi wọ́n taun wé dé fọ Judia. I bọ́n Am fọ di taim wé Hẹ́rọd bi king. Áftá Merí bọ́n Jízọs, sọm mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm kọ́n kọ́m frọm ist to Jẹrúsálẹm.

1. Mary gave birth to Jesus in Bethlehem, a town in Judea. This was during the time when Herod was king. After Mary gave birth to Jesus, some men who studied the stars came from the east to Jerusalem.

2. Di mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm kọ́n stát to áks pípul wé de lív dia sé, “Wé di Pikin wé dẹm bọ́n Am sé na Ím go bi Juu pípul dẹm King? Wi sí di sta wé shó sé dẹm dọ́n bọ́n Am. Wi sí di sta wẹ́n i kọmọ́t fọ ist, an wi dọ́n kọm mék wi baú daun to Am fọ ték rẹspẹ́t Am wẹ́l wẹl.”

2. Men who studied the stars asked people who lived there, “Where is the Child that was born who is to be the King of the Jews? We saw in the east, the star which tells us about His birth. So, we have come to bow down to Him to show Him great respect.”

3. Wẹ́n King Hẹ́rọd hiá dís tin, i wọ́rí am wẹ́l wẹl. An na so i wọ́rí ẹ́vríbọ́di wé de lív fọ Jẹrúsálẹm.

3. When King Herod heard this, he became very worried about it. And everyone who lived in Jerusalem were worried also.

4. Naím Hẹ́rọd kọ́l togẹ́da ọ́l di chíf-prist-dẹm an di tícha-dẹm wé de tích Gọd Lọ. Dẹn Hẹ́rọd áks dẹm sé, “Na wiá dẹm go bọ́n di Kraist?”

4. So Herod called together all of the chief priests and teachers of God’s law. Then Herod asked them, “Where will the Christ be born?”

5. Dẹm ánsá am sé, “Na fọ Bẹ́tlẹhẹm, wé bi taun wé dé fọ Judia. Dis na sékọf sé di prọ́fẹt raít sé, Gọd sé,

5. They answered him, “In Bethlehem of Judea. This is because the prophet wrote that, God said,

6. ‘An yu, wé bi Bẹ́tlẹhẹm wé dé fọ Júda land, yu dé amọ́ng di taun-dẹm wé dé impọ́tant wẹ́l wẹl fọ Júda. Dis na sékọf sé na frọm yu wé wọ́n Lída go kọm, an na dát Lída go líd an lúk áftá Mai pípul wé bi Ízrẹ́l pípul.’ ”

6. ‘And you, Bethlehem which is in the land of Judah, you are among the very important towns of Juda. This is because, from you a Leader will come, and that Leader will lead and look after My people Israel.’ ”

7. Naím Hẹ́rọd kọ́l di mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm mék dẹm kọ́m mít am fọ síkrit. I áks dẹm mék dẹm tẹ́l am di kọrẹ́t taim wé dẹm fẹ́st sí di sta.

7. So Herod called the men who studied the stars to come and meet him secretly. He asked them to tell him the exact time when they first saw the star.

8. Dẹn i kọ́n sẹ́n dẹm gó Bẹ́tlẹhẹm. I tẹ́l dẹm sé, “Mék una gó sách wẹ́l wẹl fọ di Pikin. Wẹ́n una sí Am, mék una kọ́m tẹ́l mi, só dat mi tuu, go gó baú daun to Am fọ ték rẹspẹ́t Am wẹ́l wẹl.”

8. Then he sent them to Bethlehem. He told them, “Search very well for the Child. When you find Him, come tell me, so that I too will go and bow down to Him to show Him great respect.”

9. Áftá di mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm hiá wétín di king tọk, dẹm kọ́n lív am de gò. As dẹm de gò, dẹm sí di sém sta wé dẹm bin dọ́n sí fọ skai wẹ́n i kọmọ́t fọ ist. Di sta kọ́n de gó fọ dẹm frọnt sóteé i kọ́n stọ́p ọn tọ́p di ples wiá di Pikin dè.

9. After the men who studied the stars heard what the king said, they left him and went away. As they were going, they saw the same star which they had seen in the sky in the east. The star went in front of them and stopped over the place where the Child was.

10. Wẹ́n dẹm sí di sta, bẹlẹ́ swít dẹm wẹ́l wẹl.

10. When they saw the star, they were very, very happy.

11. Dẹn dẹm ẹ́ntá di haus kọ́n sí di Pikin an Im mamá wé bi Merí. Naím dẹm baú daún fọ graun kọ́n shó di Pikin rẹspẹt wẹ́l wẹl. Dẹn dẹm ópún dẹm bag-dẹm, kọ́n ték kọ́slí gift-dẹm gív di Pikin. Di gift-dẹm na gold, an dẹn ‘fránkínsẹns’ (wé bi wọ́n kọ́slí ínsẹns wé gẹ́t bẹtá smẹl), an ‘mẹ́a’ (wé bi wọ́n kọ́slí ọ́yil wé gẹ́t bẹtá smẹl).

11. Upon going into the house, they saw the Child and Mary, His mother. So, they bowed down and showed great respect to the Child. Then they opened their bags, took valuable gifts, and gave the Child. The gifts were gold, frankincense and myrrh.

12. Dẹn fọ drim, Gọd kọ́n wọ́n di mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm. I wọ́n dẹm mék dẹm nọ́ gó bák to Hẹ́rọd. Naím dẹm pás anọ́dá rod gó bák fọ dẹm ón kọ́ntri.

12. Then God warned them through a dream not to go back to Herod. So, they went back to their country through another road.

Joseph Flees to Egypt with Mary and Jesus

(Vas 13-15)

(Verses 13-15)

13. Áftá di mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm dọ́n gò, naím Gọd énjẹl kọ́n shó imsẹf to Jósẹf fọ drim. Di énjẹl sé, “Gẹ́t ọp, kárí di Pikin an Im mamá rọ́n gó Íjipt. Mék yu sté dia gó rích di taim wé a go tẹ́l yú wétín yu go du. Dis na sékọf sé Hẹ́rọd go stát to faínd di Pikin mék i kíl Am.”

13. After the men who studied the stars had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up, carry the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt. Remain there until the time I will tell you what to do. This is because Herod will be looking for the Child to kill Him.”

14. Naím dát nait, Jósẹf gẹ́t ọp kọ́n kárí di Pikin an di Pikin mamá stát to trávúl gó Íjipt.

14. So that very night, Joseph got up and carried the Child and the Child’s mother and left for Egypt.

15. Joseph stayed there until Herod died. This happened to fulfill God’s word spoken by His prophet. God said, “I called My Son out of Egypt.”

Herod Kills the Baby Boys in Bethlehem

(Vas 16-18)

(Verses 16-18)

16. Wẹ́n Hẹ́rọd sí sé di mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm dọ́n plé am, naím i kọ́n vẹ́ks wẹ́l wẹl. Dẹn i sẹ́n im sója-dẹm mék dẹm gó kíl ọ́l di bébí bọi-dẹm wé dé fọ Bẹ́tlẹhẹm an ọ́dá ples-dẹm wé dé araún di taun. I tẹ́l di sója-dẹm mék dẹm kíl di wọns wé dẹm ej bi tuú yie sóteé kọ́m daun kọ́m rích di wọns wé dẹm jọ́s bọn. Hẹ́rọd bin dú dat sékọf wétín di mẹn wé de lẹ́n tins abaut sta-dẹm tẹ́l am abaut di taim wẹ́n dẹm fẹ́st sí di sta.

16. When Herod realized that the men who studied the stars had tricked him, he became very angry. So, he sent his soldiers to kill all the baby boys that were in Bethlehem and other places around the town. He told the soldiers to kill from age two down to the newly born ones. Herod did this because of what the men who studied the stars told him about the time when they first saw the star.

17. Na so wétín Gọd tọ́k trú Prọfẹt Jẹrẹmáya kọ́n ték hápún as Gọd tọk. Gọd sé,

17. So what God said through Prophet Jeremiah came true. God said,

18. “Pípul hiá wọ́n vọis fọ Ráma taun. Na vọís ọf pẹ́sin wé de kraí wẹ́l wẹl an de shaut. Na Réchẹl de kraí fọ im pikin-dẹm. I nọ́ gri mék éníbọ́di kọnsól am sékọf sé im pikin-dẹm dọ́n dai.”

18. “People heard a voice in the town of Ramah. It was the voice of great weeping, sorrow, and grief. Rachel is crying for her children. She will not let anyone console her, because her children are dead.”

Joseph, Mary and Jesus Return to Israel from Egypt

(Vas 19-23)

(Verses 19-23)

19. Áftá Hẹ́rọd dai, Gọd énjẹl kọ́n shó imsẹ́f to Jósẹf fọ drim wẹ́n Jósẹf stíl dé fọ Íjipt.

19. After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream while Joseph was still in Egypt.

20. Di énjẹl sé, “Gẹ́t ọp, kárí di Pikin an Im mamá gó bák fọ Ízrẹl. Dis na sékọf sé di pípul wé bin de traí kíl di Pikin dọ́n dai.”

20. The angel said, “Get up, carry the child and his mother and go back to Israel. Because the people who were trying to kill the Child are dead.”

21. Naím Jósẹf gẹ́t ọp, kọ́n kárí di Pikin an di Pikin mamá gó bák fọ Ízrẹl.

21. So Joseph got up and took the Child and the Child’s mother and went back to Israel.

22. Bọt wẹ́n Jósẹf hiá sé, Akẹ́lọs dọ́n bikọ́m kíng ọf Judiá éria áftá Akẹ́lọs papá wé bi Hérọd dọ́n dai, fia nọ́ lẹ́t Jósẹf gó dia. Bọt áftá Gọd enjẹl dọ́n wọ́n Jósẹf fọ drim mék i nọ́ sté fọ Judiá éria, naím Jósẹf kọ́n gó Gálílí éria.

22. But when Joseph heard that Archelaus had become king of the Judea after his father Herod died, fear stopped Joseph from going there. After an angel of the Lord warned Joseph in a dream not to stay in the Judea, he went to the area of Galilee.

23. I gó dia gó de lív fọ wọ́n taun wé dẹm de kọ́l Názárẹt. Na so wétín Gọd tọ́k trú Im prọ́fẹt-dẹm abaut Jízọ́s Kraist ték hápún as Gọd tọk. Gọd sé, “Pípul go kọ́l Kraist pẹ́sin wé kọ́m frọm Názárẹt.”

23. He went there and lived in a town called Nazareth. Therefore, what God spoke through his prophets about Jesus Christ happened as God said. God said, “People will call Christ a Nazarene.”
