MATTHEW CHAPTER 17

The Body of Jesus Changes and Shines Like the Sun

1. After six days, Jesus took Peter and the brothers James and John and led them up to the top of a high mountain. They were there alone with Jesus.

2. As they were looking, Jesus body changed. His face was shining like the sun. And His clothing became white as light.

3. Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.

4. So Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here! If You want, I will build three tents here, one for You, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

5. While Peter was still talking, a shining white cloud covered all of them. A voice spoke out from the cloud. The voice said, “This is My own Son whom I love dearly, and I am very pleased with Him. Listen to Him!”

6. When the three disciples heard the voice, they were very afraid. So, they laid down flat with their faces to the ground.

7. Bọt Jízọs kọ́n gó to dẹm an I tọ́ch dẹm. I kọ́n sé, “Mék una gẹ́t ọp. Mék una nọ́ fia.”

7. But Jesus came to them and touched them. He said, “Get up. Don’t be afraid.”

8. When they looked up, they did not see anyone again, except Jesus.

9. As Jesus and the three disciples were coming down from the mountain, He gave them an order. He said, “Do not tell anyone about the vision that you saw until after God has raised Me, the Son of Man, from death.”

10. Naím di tírí pípul wé de fọ́ló Jízọs Im wè kọ́n áks Am sé, “Dẹn na wétín mék di tícha-dẹm wé de tích Gọd Lọ de tọ́k sé, Ẹlaíja mọsto kọm bífọ́ Kraist go kọm?”

10. The three disciples asked Him, “Then why do the teachers of God’s Law say that Elijah must come before Christ comes?”

11. Jízọs ánsá, “Na trú tru sé Ẹlaíja mọsto kọm, an i go rẹdí ẹ́vrítin.

11. Jesus answered, “It is true that Elijah must come, and he is to get everything ready.

12. But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and people did not know that it was Elijah. But they did to him anything they liked. So also, I, the Son of Man, will suffer by their hands.”

13. Then the three disciples understood that He was talking to them about John the Baptist.

Jesus Casts Out an Evil Spirit from Inside a Boy

14. When Jesus and the three disciples came back to where the large crowd of people were, a man came up to Him. The man knelt down in front of Him

15. kọ́n sé, “Ọgá, mék Yu sọ́rí fọ mai pikin! Ẹ́pilẹ́psi de dú am, an di síknẹs de mék am sọ́fá bád bad. I de mék am fọ́l ínsaíd fáya an ínsaíd wọtá plẹ́ntí taim.

15. and said, “Lord, please have pity on my child! He has Epilepsy and the sickness makes him to suffer terribly. Many times, it makes him fall into fire and into water.

16. A bríng am kọ́m mít di pípul wé de fọ́ló Yọ wè, bọt dẹm nọ́ fít kiọ́ am.

16. I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not heal him.

17. Jízọs kọ́n ánsa, “Pípúl ọf dís taim sẹf! Una nọ́ de pút una trọst fọ Gọd sámsám! An di wè una de lív una laif dé rọng wẹ́l wẹl! Na haú lọng A go kọntíniú to dé péshẹnt wit una? Mék una bríng di bọi kọ́m hia to Mi!”

17. Jesus answered, “You people of this age! You do not have faith in God at all! And the way you live your lives is very wrong! How long do I have to continue to be patient with you? Bring the boy here to Me!”

18. Dẹn Jízọs hálá di bád spírit, naím di bád spírit kọmọ́t frọm ínsaíd di bọi. An di bọi kọ́n wẹl atwọns.

18. Then Jesus gave a strong command to the evil spirit, and the evil spirit came out from inside the boy. And the boy was healed at once.

19. Dẹn di pípul wé de fọ́ló Jízọs Im wè kọ́m mít Am wẹ́n nóbọ́di dé wit Am. Dẹm áks Am sé, “Na wétín mék wi nọ́ fít draív di bád spírit kọmọt?”

19. Then Jesus’ disciples came to Him when nobody was with Him. They asked Him, “Why were we not able to cast the evil spirit out?”

20. Jízọs ánsá dẹm, “Na sékọf sé di trọst wé una trọ́st Gọd dé tuú smọl. A de tẹ́l una tru sé, íf di trọst wé una trọ́st Gọd jọ́s dé big laik di taíní síd ọf di trii wé dẹm de kọ́l ‘mọ́stad’, una go fít tẹ́l dís maúntin, ‘Mék yu múv frọm hia gó dia!’ an i go muv. 20. Jesus answered them, “It is because your faith in God is too small. I tell you truly that, if your faith in God is just as big as the tiny seed of a mustard tree, you can tell this mountain, ‘Move from here and go there!’ and it will move. And there will be nothing that you cannot do!

21. [But it is only if you pray and fast, then you can cast out this kind of evil spirit.]”

Jesus Speaks Again About His Death

22. Wẹ́n Jízọs an ọ́l di pípul wé de fọ́ló Im wè gádá togẹ́da fọ Gálíli, I tẹ́l dẹm sé, “Sọ́mbọ́di go sẹ́l Mi, wé bi Húmánbin Pikin, gív sọm pípul.

22. When Jesus and all His disciples gathered together in Galilee, He said to them, “Someone will hand Me, the Son of Man, over to people.

23. Di pípul go kíl Mi, bọt fọ tẹ́d dè, Gọd go wék Mí ọ́p frọm dai.” Di pípul wé de fọ́ló Jízọs Im wè nọ́ hapí sámsám wẹ́n dẹm hiá wétín Jízọs tọk.

23. The people will kill Me, but on the third day, God will raise Me up from death.” His disciples were very sad when they heard what Jesus said.

Jesus Pays the Tax That Belongs to God’s House

(Vas 24-27)

24. Wẹ́n Jízọs an di pípul wé de fọ́ló Im wè rích Kapániọm, di pípul wé de kọlẹ́t di taks wé bi fọ Gọd-Haus kọ́m mít Píta áks am sé, “Abí una Tícha de pé di taks wé bi fọ Gọd-Haus?”

24. When Jesus and His disciples reached Capernaum, God’s House tax collectors met Peter and asked him, “Does your Teacher pay the tax that belongs to God’s House?”

25. Píta ánsá, “Yẹs.” Dẹn i kọ́n ẹ́ntá di haus wiá Jízọs dè. Bọt bifọ́ i fít tọ́k abaut di máta, Jízọs áks am sé, “Na wétín yu tink, Saímọn? Na hú de pé kọ́stọ́m dúti an taks gív di king-dẹm fọ dís wọld? Abí na di king im ón kọntri pípul ọ pípul wé bilọ́ng to ọ́dá kọ́ntri-dẹm?”

25. Peter answered, “Yes.” Then he went into the house where Jesus was. But before he could talk about the matter, Jesus asked him, “What do you think, Simon? Who pays custom duties and tax to the kings of this world? Is it the king’s own citizens or people who belong to other countries?”

26. Píta ánsá, “Na pípul wé bilọ́ng to ọ́dá kọ́ntri-dẹm.” Naím Jízọs tẹ́l am, “Dẹn di king im ón kọntri pípul nọ́ níd to pè.

26. Peter answered, “The people who belong to other countries.” Then Jesus said to him, “Then the king’s own citizens do not need to pay.

27. But we do not want to make the tax collectors angry with us. So, go to the lake and cast a hook into the water. Take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth, you will see a coin that is enough to pay tax for two people. Take the coin and pay them for My tax and yours.”
